Municipality of Pesaro

Pesaro is a destination not to be missed by any seascape and landscape enthusiast; it is located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, surrounded on the north by Monte San Bartolo and on the south by Colle Ardizio, which guarantee a mild climate all year round.

The sea is linked to centuries-old hospitality tradition, which has always given preference to selected and quality hospitality rather than large numbers of visitors, paying particular attention to families and children.

In the city of Pesaro you can live a relaxed life on the beach: ideal for those who want to relax away from the noise or mass tourism, without giving up amusements and entertainment.  The whole sea area in summertime is animated by small markets, shows and food and wine events. Also in the Harbour area you can reach the neighbouring Croatia on board a fast catamaran.

Art and culture

Pesaro, in addition to being a city by the sea rich in natural treasures, is also a historical centre where one can admire Palazzo Ducale,  the house where Gioacchino Rossini was born; the Civic Museums with a wealth of paintings and ceramic works - among them the famous La Sacra Conversazione (Sacred Conversation) by Giovanni Bellini; the  Rossini Theatre with Conservatory, dedicated to the famous Pesaro composer and housed in the eighteenth century  Palazzo Olivieri, which is one of the most famous music schools in the world.  The ROF - Rossini Opera Festival every year attracts Opera enthusiasts from all over the world.

The frequent stays in Pesaro of famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti of Modena, who passed away not long ago, even he was not born in Pesaro but residing in Pesaro as much as possible are an indication that Pesaro is a "city of music”.

The Diocesano Museum, the Museo Archeologico Oliveriano of Palazzo Almerici with the Oliveriana Library, the Museum of Marineria Washington Patrignani, the Cathedral with a double mosaic pavement, the fortress of Rocca Costanza and Villino Ruggeri, a splendid example of Art Nouveau overlooking Piazzale della Libertà which houses on a water mirror the Sfera Grande(the Great Ball), a bronze casting made in 1998 by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, are the feather in the cap of the City.

Treasures to visit a few km away

The castle of Candelara, whose walls  are an extraordinary example of fifteen century military architecture, every year host the event "Candele a Candelara" (Candles in Candelara); it is the first Italian Christmas market entirely dedicated to candles. Also to visit are the Castle of Ginestreto with its thousand years of history, and the ancient village of Novilara.

The artistic craftwork

Ceramics, briar pipes, leather works, artistic glasses are some of the artefacts that characterize our local artisans’ ability to produce quality and excellence even today.

"City of Sports"

Pesaro is the source of sports champions and it is often the focus of major sporting events. From the national bravery of  our basketball and volley team, to champions like Valentino Rossi in motorcycling, Filippo Magnini in swimming, Massimo Ambrosini in football. All of this make Pesaro a "city of sports".
