Marche region

Within the boundaries of the Marche region there is a wide variety of artistic and natural beauties that make the region a great destination for those who have the opportunity to live and visit it, from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennine Mountains. The climate is mild throughout the year with hot summers, but rarely sultry thanks to the wind and coolness that comes from the hills behind the sea, and winters are moderately cold.

The coastal landscape, characterized by long sandy beaches, with very fine sand, rocky coves and cliffs overlooking the Adriatic, received as many as 16 Blue Flags thanks to the quality of the sea water and the service offered. There are many opportunities to play sports on the beaches of the Marche region: windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, scuba diving, and kite surfing.

For lovers of skiing and cross-country skiing, hiking, walking, horseback riding or mountain biking, there are the ridges of the Apennines that extend from Nerone, Catria and Carpegna mountains in the province of Pesaro and Urbino up to the Sibillini Mountains.

There are many routes to be covered in the Marche region, but no visitor should miss the charming Grotte di Frasassi (Frassasi Caves) and as many as 12 protected areas including national and regional parks and nature reserves. For those who wish to plunge into pure relax, thermal spas are great solutions to regenerate the body and mind with massages and baths in waters with rich curative properties.

The hinterland of the region is dominated by an undulating landscape of hills, on top of which one can find ancient villages, beautiful oases where it is possible to enjoy a medieval and Renaissance atmosphere. Here one can discover artisan traditions and typical flavours, and admire the great masterpieces of Piero Della Francesca, Raffaello, Lotto, Tiziano, all important examples of a famous historical and artistic past.

The Marche region is one of the richest regions in Italy for cultural heritage: an infinite number of theatres, fortresses, castles and shrines such as that of Loreto, one of the most famous in Europe; museum houses that are the birthplace of famous personalities such as Giacomo Leopardi, Gioacchino Rossini and Raffaello Sanzio.

The hinterland of the Marche region features 18 Orange flags, places of culture and tradition selected by the Italian Touring Club, and the same number of Municipalities proud to be included among the "most beautiful villages in Italy", a club that collects small Italian towns with high artistic and historical value.

All places grant a special welcome, where one can experience emotions and feelings, and spend a pleasant stay.
